Leonello Bertolucci
Visual communication, history of photography, photo editing, reportage, music and theatre photography
Born in Liguria and arrived in Milan in the eighties, he started his career in documentary photography by working for some Italian newspapers and agencies. Later, he began to work with international partner, such as the Parisian agency Sygma. His photos appeared on newspares such as Time, Newsweek, Stern, Paris-Match, Epoca, etc. Currently, he is a contributor photographer at Getty Images.
His work was also published and displayed in different occasions. He is a counsellor in the editorial and multimedia field, and he works as photo editor for newspapers. He wrote the first Italian book on this topic called “Professione Photo Editor” (Gremese Editore), and he recently published a second book called “Il photo editing. Scegliere le immagini nel racconto fotografico” (Emuse Ed.).
He teaches at Istituto Italiano di Fotografia (Milan) and at other schools and universities; he also holds courses, workshops and portfolio readings around Italy.
He is a member of the scientific committee of CIFA (Centro Italiano della Fotografia d’Autore).
Among the magazines that talked about his work we can find: Fotopratica, Il Fotografo, Nuova Fotografia, Photo, Fotographia, Techno Photo, Fotoit, Gente di Fotografia.
He likes to play, and in his editions of Pulcinoelefante his photos play with the texts of authors such as Alda Merini, Tonino Guerra, Enzo Sellerio. He also published a book of aphorisms called “55 fotograforismi” (Postcart Edizioni).
He is part of the Association of Journalists and writes about photography on the magazine Il Fotografo and in his blog on Il Fatto Quotidiano.
